  • Additional $20 million investment into Collie Industry Attraction Fund to help diversify industry and create new local jobs
  • Re-elected McGowan Government to continue successful efforts to develop new industries and attract job-creating projects to Collie

A re-elected McGowan Government will continue its successful efforts to grow and diversify Collie industry – with $20 million to bolster the Collie Industry Attraction Fund and secure more job-creating local projects.

Over the last four years the McGowan Government has invested $80 million to diversify and grow the Collie economy into new areas like tourism – while maintaining a strong focus on supporting and revitalising Collie’s industrial base.

In its first term the McGowan Government has succeeded in facilitating the establishment of the WesTrac Technology Training Centre in Collie – the southern hemisphere’s first autonomous equipment training centre – and the new Frontline Fire & Rescue Equipment manufacturing facility.

These projects have created local jobs and demonstrated the Collie region’s ongoing strengths as an industrial hub to other private sector operators.

The additional investment in the Collie Industry Attraction Fund will continue the push to attract new large industry to the region to build on the McGowan Government’s demonstrated success to date.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

“The Collie region is the industrial heartland of the South West. The town has a proud industrial history, a wealth of skilled local workers, an abundant local power supply and close access to Bunbury Port.

“Collie has all the advantages it needs to continue its rich industrial history long into the future and my government is committed to seeing our efforts through.

“This additional support will make sure Collie is even more attractive to the private sector as a place to do business, ensuring the region can continue to offer high-paying, skilled jobs well into the future.”

Comments attributed to WA Labor Candidate for Collie-Preston Jodie Hanns:

“The Premier has made one thing absolutely clear over the last four years: Collie’s status as an industrial hub is guaranteed.

“The McGowan Government’s track record on industry attraction speaks for itself. Collie now boasts one of only two autonomous equipment training centres in the world and a brand new firetruck manufacturing facility.

“While efforts will continue to diversify our region to capitalise on tourism and other opportunities, Collie industry will continue long into the future, ensuring our young people can stay in town knowing there are skilled, high paying jobs available locally.”
